A house divided against itself will not stand long.
That’s the current case in the beef industry, where the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association seems to work in direct opposition to rank-and-file beef producers. The prime example before us is the NCBA’s stubborn and staunch opposition to Country of Origin Labeling that many beef producers want and consumers repeatedly have said they support. Survey’s taken of consumer attitudes toward labeling consistently shows 80 percent support for COOL. However, NCBA has sided with those who oppose COOL within the World Trade Association structure.
NCBA’s critics say the national organization is both out of touch and grown too close to the new packers that dominate the industry within the United States. [Click here for the full article.]
